Melissa is a proud teaching artist for Dancing Classrooms, a program that teaches children in the public schools of New York City an introduction to Ballroom Dance (as seen in the movies Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead). Through this program she not only brings the joy of dance to children, but also teaches them social etiquette and confidence.
“Dancing in Jaffa”- My friend, and founder of Dancing Classrooms, Pierre Dulaine, takes his belief that dance can overcome political and cultural differences and puts it into action with one hundred and fifty 11 year old Jewish and Palestinian Israelies. I got to see this movie when it was first in the film festival, and it is really a special documentary, so moving, and this is exactly what I do every day, just here in NY with kids with a different set of cultural differences… it is coming out in select cities this month, so if you get a chance, go see it in the Theatres!
